Pedestrian hit by vehicle

Piedmont firefighters work at the scene of a accident on Anderson Street Monday night. A pedestrian was apparently crossing the roadway near Academy Street when he was struck by an eastbound Toyota. The man was thrown over the car and onto the roadway. He was rushed to Greenville Memorial Hospital by Pelzer EMS and later died. (Photo by David Rogers)

Foundation to match PERC donations

The Piedmont Emergency Relief Center is participating in the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation 15th Annual $1 Million Challenge to Fight Hunger. For every $1 and every pound of food donated to P.E.R.C. from March 1st through April 30th will be matched by a share of funds from the Feinstein Foundation.

Free shred day offered in Piedmont

The Bonnes Amies Club of Piedmont will sponsor a free community shred day on Friday March 16 from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Work underway on Piedmont sewer rehab

The big news at an otherwise routine meeting of the Piedmont Public Service Commission is that construction has finally begun on the sewer rehabilitation and replacement project for the town’s sewer lines.

Meet the staff Sunday at AnMed Health Wren Grand Opening

School Board approves funding for Wren area project, school calendar

The Anderson School District One Board of Trustees approved funding for a sidewalk and road improvement project in the Wren School area and the 2012-13 school calender during their regular monthly meeting held Tuesday, Jan. 31.Anderson County Chief Engineer Judy Shelato presented information about the Wren Schools Safe Routes to School Project to the Board.

Project will improve Wren schools safety – $72,500 for road and sidewalks

Anderson County Chief Engineer Judy Shelato presented information to the District One School Board about the Wren Schools Safe Routes to School Project the District and County are working on. During the board meeting Tuesday, Shelato said Phase II of the project will include a number of intersection and road improvements, primarily on LaRoache Drive and will complete sidewalk facilities interconnecting the Wren Primary, Middle and High Schools. Congestion on LaRoache Drive will be addressed by widening from the entrance to the Freshman Academy to Wren School Rd. and a turning lane will be added.

The Anderson School District One Board of Trustees approved funding for a sidewalk and road improvement project in the Wren School area and the 2012-13 school calender during their regular monthly meeting held Tuesday, Jan. 31. Anderson County Chief Engineer Judy Shelato presented information about the Wren Schools Safe Routes to School Project to the Board. Bids on the project came in less than expected, with a low bid of $336,209 by S&S Construction.
