Wilson arrested, out on bail

According to reports, Ron Wilson was arrested Wednesday and charged with mail fraud after turning himself in to U. S. Marshals just before a 2 p.m hearing in front of U. S. Magistrate Jacquelyn D. Austin in a Greenville court room.

He was released on $1 million bail shortly after his wife used three properties in her name to secure the bail, officials said.

Cooper recognized for recruiting efforts

Former State representative Dan Cooper, of Powdersville, has been honored for his efforts to attract jobs and industry to Anderson County. Cooper, who sat for six years as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee prior to his abrupt resignation from the House, was nominated by the Anderson County Economic Development Board as Ambassador of Economic Development for the County.

Dolly Cooper Park to be key facility in river recreational use

A small crowd gathered at the Powdersville Library Tuesday night to hear the latest plans for the Dolly Cooper Park.

Matt Shell, Anderson County’s recreation director, explained that the immediate plans for use of the park is shifting away from ball fields and soccer fields and towards expanded use of the river. “The river and the opportunities it offers are going to carry this park for a good while,” said Shell.

Documents must be read and evaluated, assistant AG says

Experience and compassion are the hallmarks of the Tracy Meyers, Senior Assistant Attorney General, who is handling her Office’s investigation into the Atlantic Bullion & Coin Company. (See related story elsewhere in this issue of The Journal.)

Meyers was with the AG’s Office when the Carolina Investors/Home Gold Financial scandal hit South Carolina. When questioned at Monday night’s meeting about why no criminal charges have been filed in the AB&C case, she said, “A week into the Carolina Investors case, I had 128,000 documents in my office. They had to be read and evaluated. This case promises to be much the same. My point is that criminal cases take much longer to build.”

Tuesday forum on Dolly Cooper Park access trail

Anderson County Council District 6 representative Ken Waters and the Anderson County Parks and Recreation Department will hold an information forum to discuss a Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant application for the proposed Dolly Cooper Shoreline Access Trail. The meeting will be held at the Powdersvill Library Tuesday, March 27 at 6 pm

Legislation being introduced in response to AB&C investigation

The recent revelations concerning Atlantic Bullion and Coin, (AB&C) a business owned and operated by former Anderson County Councilman Ron Wilson, will lead to the introduction of legislation in both the Senate and the House of Representatives to close some loopholes.
Rep. Joshua Putnam will introduce legislation in the House that would require the Attorney General’s Office to notify the Better Business Bureau, the Labor, Licensing and Regulation Office of the state, and the appropriate local media outlets whenever an investment company is served with a cease and desist order.

Investors looking for answers

Locally and across 20 states, investors in Atlantic Bullion & Coin are looking for answers.

Approximately 300 people attended a meeting were held earlier this week in Anderson to hear about a potential classaction lawsuit against AB&C and owner Ron Wilson.

Two arrested for guns, drugs

Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Gang Task Force Investigators and CATCH (Criminal Apprehension Through Community Help) officers have arrested two individuals for attempting to sell stolen guns in Anderson County and for drug charges.
