Relay for Life event schedule

The Second Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of North Anderson gets underway May 4 at 7 pm at Wren High School. The cancer awareness and fundraiser event will feature lots of entertainment as it is held overnight. Individuals and teams will camp out at the football stadium with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening.

Debate shows differences in sheriff candidates

Sheriff John Skipper and his opponent for that office, Creed Hashe, faced off at a debate hosted by the White Plains Community Crime Watch Thursday.

The exchange of views was civil and professional, as befits both men’s extensive law enforcement careers; but distinct philosophical differences about law enforcement were obvious.

Spearman holds Spring Fling

Spearman Elementary held their annual Spring Fling on Friday, April 20. The event included lots of fun and food and activites that were enjoyed by all ages. Pictured – Lexi Sullivan enjoyed Mrs. Bartz face painting her nose.

Lincoln Energy adds storage tanks

Lincoln Energy Solutions, a provider of biofuels solutions and related services is expanding their Belton facility by constructing new storage tanks. The new tanks will provide 1.5 million gallons of storage capacity for ethanol and 400,000 gallons of storage space for biodiesel fuel. Additionally, a 225,000 gallon water tank is being built as part of the foam fire suppression system for tank fire protection in accordance to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.

Cyclist injured

A motorcycle rider was injured Friday night after he struck a car on Anderson Highway. A car was apparently entering Anderson Highway from Loveland Drive when the motorcycle struck it.

Father, daughter killed in accident

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown works an accident scene where a father and daughter were killed Friday night. The father was driving west on Highway 8/81 when he apparently crossed the center line and was struck by another vehicle.

Orr finishes 94th in Boston Marathon

Brad Orr of Rock Hill finished 94th overall in the 2012 Boston Marathon, running the 26.2 mile race in 2:42:33.

Orr said he “just tried to hold it together” during the race and that “it was a rough day out there.” He was cramping from head to toe towards the end but he got through it.
