Four injured – Hwy. 81

Four people were injured in a head on accident on Highway 81 Friday night. Hopewell firefighters assisted Pelzer EMS and Medshore Ambulance Service personnel with cutting one of the victims free from the wreckage and also patient care. The wreck happened near Long Road north of Hopewell Church Road. A Nissan apparently crossed the center line and struck a Toyota almost head on.(Photo by David Rogers)

Mobile Home Fire – Willingham Road

Firefighters from three area fire departments responded to a structure fire on Willingham Road around 6 a.m. Thursday morning.  Officials believe a clothes dryer was the cause of the fire which destroyed the home.

Two seriously injured – Willingham Road

Two people were seriously injured in an accident on Willingham Road at approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday. According to officials a male and female were in the vehicle when it ran off the right side of the road, struck a concrete culvert, overturned and burst into flames. The man who’s house the accident happened in front of and a woman who was driving by, helped pull David Visoso, 18, of Belton from the vehicle.

Boil Water Advisory issued for Big Creek, Williamston

Residents of Big Creek Water District and the Town of Williamston are being advised to boil their water for at least one minute prior to consumption beginning Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. Anderson Joint Regional Water System crews will be making planned improvements in the I-85 area and the east side of the water transmission lines which will result in the advisotry, officials said. Water customers should boil their water for at least one minute prior to human consumption.

Piercetown Fire Dept. to elect board

The Piercetown Fire Department will hold their annual community meeting on Monday, March 18 at 7 pm. The board of directors elections will be held during this meeting. The meeting will be held at the department at 5150 Hwy. 81 North.

Hit and run – Hwy. 88

The SC Highway Patrol is investigating a hit and run incident in which Clifton Chapman, 32, was hit by a car Monday night around 7:15 p.m. His body was found Tuesday morning at about 8 a.m. in a ditch on Sharon Church Road just off Hwy. 88. According to reports, neighbors heard a bang and saw a car idling on the road Monday night.

Martin instrumental in community crime watch

The fifth anniversary celebration of the founding of the White Plains Crime Watch group turned into a testimonial for the group’s founder, Ada Martin. Approximately forty residents, Crime Stopper board members, of which Martin is one, and various law enforcement officials, gathered last Thursday night to mark the fifth year of the group’s existence.

White Plains Community Watch group to celebrate five years

Five years ago, the White Plains Community Watch was formed, in order to provide more surveillance in the community, and to help expand the presence of law enforcement in Sheriff’s District One.

Thursday evening, at 6:30 p.m., the group will gather to celebrate their fifth anniversary and the accomplishments they have had during that time. Ada Martin, one of the founders, and a member of the Anderson County Crime Stoppers board of directors, says anyone is welcome, including officers on patrol who might like to stop by long enough to grab a beverage and a snack.

Santa Express in area Saturday

The Greenville & Western Railway will host their Sixth Annual “Santa Express” on Saturday December 8. Santa will ride the rails to five stops between Honea Path and Pelzer.
