Hit and run – Hwy. 88

The SC Highway Patrol is investigating a hit and run incident in which Clifton Chapman, 32, was hit by a car Monday night around 7:15 p.m. His body was found Tuesday morning at about 8 a.m. in a ditch on Sharon Church Road just off Hwy. 88. According to reports, neighbors heard a bang and saw a car idling on the road Monday night.

Hurricane Park restroom facility gets funding

Due to a financial commitment by District Six County Councilman Ken Waters, a long awaited restroom facility will be completed at Hurricane Park, adjacent to Wren High School. The project, which was started some time ago but which has lain dormant due to funding issues, will be completed in time for the reawakening spring sports programs, according to county officials.

Storm damage causes power outage

By Stan Welch – A line of heavy thunderstorms rolled across the Upstate overnight Monday, dropping heavy amounts of rain, and causing power outages across the Clemson, Anderson, and Greenville areas. Nearly five thousand Duke Energy customers were without power in the northern end of Anderson County and the adjacent parts of Greenville County, according to Duke Energy media relations spokesperson Tom Shiel.

Relay for Life event schedule

The Second Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of North Anderson gets underway May 4 at 7 pm at Wren High School. The cancer awareness and fundraiser event will feature lots of entertainment as it is held overnight. Individuals and teams will camp out at the football stadium with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening.

Orr finishes 94th in Boston Marathon

Brad Orr of Rock Hill finished 94th overall in the 2012 Boston Marathon, running the 26.2 mile race in 2:42:33.

Orr said he “just tried to hold it together” during the race and that “it was a rough day out there.” He was cramping from head to toe towards the end but he got through it.

Project will improve Wren schools safety – $72,500 for road and sidewalks

Anderson County Chief Engineer Judy Shelato presented information to the District One School Board about the Wren Schools Safe Routes to School Project the District and County are working on. During the board meeting Tuesday, Shelato said Phase II of the project will include a number of intersection and road improvements, primarily on LaRoache Drive and will complete sidewalk facilities interconnecting the Wren Primary, Middle and High Schools. Congestion on LaRoache Drive will be addressed by widening from the entrance to the Freshman Academy to Wren School Rd. and a turning lane will be added.
