Former Senator Garrison dies

Former Senator T. Ed Garrison, Jr. died Sunday at age 91.

Garrison was known for his Denver Downs Farm located between Anderson and Clemson and for years of service to the state where he was a champion for agriculture and conservation. He often participated in the Denver Downs Christmas parade and served as the parade’s Grand Marshall last year.

A 1942 graduate of Clemson University, the T. Ed Garrison Livestock Arena was named for him in 1991. As a senator, he secured funding for the SC Land Resources Commission, which became a part of the Department of Natural Resources. He advocated for state storm water management, mine land reclamation, dam and reservoir safety and landscape architect registration.

Tree knocks out power on Durham Drive

A large tree crashed down across Durham Drive knocking out power to several homes during a recent storm. Power was restored in about two hours and the tree was removed from the roadway. Williamston firefighters stood by as a precaution and redirected traffic.(Photo by David Rogers)

Graduation smiles

Palmetto High Graduates file out of the LittleJohn Coliseum with smiles on their faces after receiving their diplomas Thursday. Area graduates of Palmetto, Wren and Woodmont are now entering a new phase of their lives as they leave high school behind and move on to college, work, creating families and possibly changing the world. A special salute to graduates of all three schools is included in this edition of The Journal. “We wish all our area graduates and their families all the best as they celebrate this milestone,” Journal Managing Editor David Meade said.

Single vehicle accident

Accident on Midway Road
