Ford going to Green Bay

Former Palmetto High, T. L. Hanna and Wake Forest tight end Cameron Ford was picked by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent Saturday. In an interview Monday, Ford said he watched the NFL draft all day on Saturday with his parents Doug and Melanie Ford and brothers, Tyler and Chase. When the draft ended, the pressure came. He said he wasn’t expecting to be drafted but thought he might have a chance as an undrafted free agent.

Williamston Police Cheif Jay Grubbs looks over a variety of guns confiscated from persons arrested in the Town of Williamston. The department is in the process of clearing out guns and drugs that have been placed into evidence over several years.

Cycle racing returns to downtown Anderson

Pro-cyclists from across the nation and world will race in Anderson this Saturday, May 5 as part of The USA CRIT Series Speed Week. The series includes 7 races held over 10 days starting with the Athens Twilight held this past Saturday and ending in Sandy Springs, Georgia May 6. The series offers $150,000 in prize money to the Men’s and Women’s Professional/Elite Teams.

The 31st annual Freedom Weekend Aloft festival (FWA) will return to Heritage Park in Simpsonville over Memorial Day weekend. The festival will paint the Upstate’s skyline with multicolored hot air balloons May 25 – 28., thanks to a continued partnership with Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center (GHS). FWA is recognized for its signature hot air balloons and the four day concert series with previously announced concerts for 2012 including Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, Jake Owen, Eddie Money and more.

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown enters the house at 7 Ellison Street in Williamston Tuesday. Officials are investigating the death of a six- month- old female child at the home.

The Williamston Police Department and Anderson County Coroners office are investigating the death of a six month old female child, possibly occurring as the result of positional asphyxia.

Father, daughter killed in accident

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown works an accident scene where a father and daughter were killed Friday night. The father was driving west on Highway 8/81 when he apparently crossed the center line and was struck by another vehicle.

Cooper recognized by State for industry recruitment efforts

Dan Cooper, of Parker Poe Consulting was recently honored by Gov. Nikki Haley and Secretary of Commerce, Bobby Hitt for being a strong leader in recruitment of industry in Anderson County. He has been an advocate for the existing industries and worked tirelessly to improve the county’s assets, state officials said. Cooper has assisted businesses and organizations in a number of education, infrastructure and workforce needs.
