Pelzer resident describes shooting incident

A Williamston man was seriously wounded in a gunfight in Pelzer Sunday. Mitchell Ray Carroll, of 209 E. Carolina Street, was shot in the head and the right side of his chest in an extended exchange of gunfire along River Street in Pelzer. He remains in serious condition at a local hospital.

The husband of a witness to the shooting told The Journal that Carroll was inside the residence at 14 River Street when the shooting began and he fled in his gray Dodge Ram truck. The witness, who was on her front porch when the shooting broke out, dove to the floor and injured her back, which she had surgery on two years ago. She was not hit by any of the bullets that sprayed the area.

Driver pleads guilty to reckless homicide

Cody Bradley Hendry, the driver of a 2000 Honda involved in an accident on US Hwy. 29 in Nov. 2011 in which 17 year old Jaela Kelley was killed, pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless homicide Thursday. According to Assistant Solicitor Lauren Price, Hendry had a blood-alcohol level of 0.099 after the accident. He was originally facing a charge of DUI homicide which has a sentence of up to 25 years. Under the reckless homicide charge, Hendry is facing up to 10 years in prison.

Arrest made in Pelzer Shooting

Anderson County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested two people in connection with a shooting that occurred on River Street in Pelzer Sunday morning. Billy Joe Crane and Jamie Michael Eaton were arrested Sunday night without incident and chargedor with attempted murder. Mitchell Ray Carroll was shot multiple times before he crashed a car into a fence on the Pelzer EMS property.

Powdersville Subway robbed

Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating an early morning robbery that occurred at a Powdersville restaurant. Deputies responded to the Subway at 3443 Highway 153, Piedmont, and learned that a lone male robbed the manager at gunpoint and fled the scene on foot.

Williamston Police Report

The Town of Williamston and Williamston Police Department initiated a codes enforcement push last week which resulted in twenty four incidents of code violations, mostly involving excessive growth of weeds and plants. The town’s ordinance states that growth above 12 inches are in violation and subject to a $1096 fine plus court costs and/or a maximum of thirty days in jail.

Charges dropped in PTO embezzlement at West Pelzer

The West Pelzer Police Department investigation of an incident of embezzlement involving a member of the West Pelzer Elementary School PTO has been closed with no charges filed. According to West Pelzer Police Chief M. D. Clardy, the investigation initially showed approximately $3300 of PTO funds were taken and converted to personal use by the PTO treasurer at the time. During the investigation, it was determined an additional $1000 was missing from the account, Chief Clardy said.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Report

Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies recently investigated seventeen reports of auto break-ins in the Powdersville area and a number of shoplifting incidents at several Powdersville stores including the new Walmart. Among incidents investigated were the following:

EASLEY

On May 30, ACSO deputies responded to seventeen reports of automobiles in the Powdersville area being broken into the night before. Several GPS units were stolen, along with other electronics including a laptop computer. Two firearms were among the items stolen. The total of the estimated losses for all fourteen cars is $5770. Every one of the cars was left unlocked, according to the incident reports.

Williamston Police Report

Williamston Police Officers investigated several thefts and minor drug related incidents. Among incidents investigated were:

May 27 – Sav-Way, 309 East Main St., reported a gas drive off in which a dark sports car pumped $21.11 of 87 Octane gas and drove off without paying. Sgt. K. J. Winn investigated.

Williamston Police Officers investigated several thefts and incidents involving drugs including the following:

May 7 – Williamston officers discovered two bags of marijuana and a set of digital scales on a porch at 403 Greenville Dr. Officers also found a pill bottle at the residence containing 8 generic Xanax pills. The drugs were seized and marked for disposal. Reports state no arrest was made becasue it could not be determined who was in control of the items at the time. Capt. K. Marsee, Chief T. Taylor investigated.

Church Safety Training seminar being offered

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a “Church Safety Training” seminar for members of our community churches and religious establishments on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Anderson Civic Center starting at 8:00 a.m. The training comes from requests from community members that are concerned about the growing number of incursions and attacks on people in church and at church functions.
