Storm Damage – Wednesday Night

A motorist asks directions Wednesday night after encountering a roadblock on Highway 76 near Princeton. Several hundred residents were without electricity after a strong thunderstorm toppled trees onto power lines. Highway 25 from the Hot Spot down was dark as crews worked to remove the trees and replace the lines. Traffic was detoured from US 76 until the damage was repaired and the trees cleared. Sheriff’s Deputies help woman to safety

Two Anderson County deputies saved the life of a Williamston resident Saturday by pulling her from the Saluda River.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Kari Paige Woody, 25, of Williamston, was helpless and unable to move in the water. She was clinging to a tree limb for her life. Woody, who could not swim, attempted to cross the river on a tree limb. After she became distressed and unable to move, she screamed for help.

Church Safety Training seminar being offered

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a “Church Safety Training” seminar for members of our community churches and religious establishments on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Anderson Civic Center starting at 8:00 a.m. The training comes from requests from community members that are concerned about the growing number of incursions and attacks on people in church and at church functions.

West Pelzer, Williamston sign mutual aid agreement

The towns and police departments of Williamston and West Pelzer have entered into a mutual aid agreement that allows either agency to call on the other for additional law enforcement resources in times of emergency or unusual need.

The West Pelzer Town Council approved the agreement Monday night. Williamston did so last week at their Council meeting. Both police Chief Mike Clardy and Chief Tony Taylor signed off on the agreement.

Heart attack caused man to fall overboard

According to Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown, the man who fell from a boat into the Williamston reservoir Friday suffered a heart attack. Terry Keith Fricks, 61, of Pelzer, was fishing when he told his friend he felt ill and then fell overboard. EMS attempted to resuscitate Fricks when he was brought to shore in the Shorebrook subdivision in Williamston. He was transported by ambulance to Greenville Memorial Hospital around 4 p.m. where he was pronounced dead.

Two injured on Midway Road – Monday

Two people were injured in a accident that split a car in two Monday night on Midway Road. A Toyota pickup truck collided with a car sending both drivers to the hospital. A passenger in the truck was uninjured. Piercetown firefighters and Williamston EMS responded to the call. The truck overturned on impact. (Photo by David Rogers)

Near drowning in Shorebrook area – Williamston

EMS responds to Williamston reservoir area

Four injured – Hwy. 81

Four people were injured in a head on accident on Highway 81 Friday night. Hopewell firefighters assisted Pelzer EMS and Medshore Ambulance Service personnel with cutting one of the victims free from the wreckage and also patient care. The wreck happened near Long Road north of Hopewell Church Road. A Nissan apparently crossed the center line and struck a Toyota almost head on.(Photo by David Rogers)
