Epps recognized by USPS Inspection Service

Anderson County Sheriff’s Investigator Grady M. Epps recently received a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Postal Service. Epps was recognized for his significant contributions to the Upstate Financial Crimes Task Force and the U. S. Postal Inspection Service. Inspector In Charge Keith A. Fixel made the presentation at the Postal Inspection Office in Greenville.

Korean War Veterans Memorial to be dedicated – At Conestee Park

The Korean War Veterans Association, Foothills Chapter of SC #301invites the public to the dedication of the new Korean War Veterans Memorial on Saturday June 1, 2013 at 11:am. in Conestee Park 840 Mauldin Rd. Former home of the 2A Greenville Braves, Municipal field.

The Memorial also includes an Honors Walkway of engraved memory bricks. New bricks may still be purchased from any member at $50.00 for a single brick and $75.00 for a double brick.

Cortez named Water Association Manager Of The Year

Chuck Cortez, manager of Big Creek Water District and Hammond Water District was recently named “Manager of the Year” by the South Carolina Rural Water Association. Cortez was presented the prestigious award on February 8 at the South Carolina Rural Water Decision Makers Conference held at the Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms.

Firefighter of the Year

Powdersville firefighter Ken Barr was selected as the Anderson County Firefighter of the Year for 2012 at the annual fire chiefs banquet Monday night. Barr, who actually helped build the building that houses the Powdersville Fire Department, has been a member since its inception in 1964. Barr was caught off guard as he was named the recipient of the prestigious award.

Rhodes named SCSCA Administrator of the Year

Wren Elementary Principal Rhonda Rhodes was recently named Administrator of the Year by the South Carolina School Counselors Association. The award is designed to recognize an outstanding administrator for the profound and lasting impact on the counseling and helping profession. Rhodes was recognized during the SCSCA Fall Conference 2012 on November 3 at the awards luncheon in Myrtle Beach.

USC Journalism School honors Jeff Charney

Former Williamston resident

The University of South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communications honored Michael Jeffrey Charney at their Annual Alumni Awards Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 8.

The Distinguished Alumni Award honors graduates who have demonstrated a history of exemplary work in their professional careers and who have been out of school for at least 10 years. It identifies exceptional graduates of the school whose careers represent significant achievement. Charney graduated in 1981, majoring in Public Relations.

Economic Developers recognize White, O’Dell

As Legislators of the Year
O’Dell recognized by SCEDA -  SCEDA Executive Director Keely Yates presents Sen. Billy O’Dell with a plaque recognizing him as the South Carolina Economic Developer’s Association Legislator of the Year.

The South Carolina Economic Developers’ Association (SCEDA) recently named SC House Member Brian White and SC Senator Billy O’Dell recipients of the 2012 SC Economic Developers’ Association Legislator of the Year Awards.

PHS welcomes home veterans on Upstate Honor Flight

Upstate Honor Flight is a program that flies World War II veterans to Washington, DC to see the memorial built in their honor and allows them to experience recognition for their sacrifice and service. Palmetto High School AFJROTC cadets and the Mustang Regiment attended the return of 72 WWII veterans on the Upstate Honor Flight at GSP Airport on Tuesday. Cadets conducted a saber salute and provided Color Guard as each veteran received a “hero’s welcome.” The Mustang Regiment band performed the National Anthem and a service song medley continually throughout the ceremony.

Senator Billy O’Dell honored in Williamston

By Stan Welch – A crowd of approximately sixty people gathered at the Williamston Municipal Center Friday to honor Senator Billy O’Dell. The crowd included elected officials from the state, county, and municipal levels, as well as private citizens. Senator O’Dell is the longest serving Senator in the history of the historic Pendleton District, a political and geographical district from which several Upstate counties were formed.

Crime Stoppers honors Martin for service

During the White Plains Crime Watch meeting Thursday, the Anderson Area Crime Stoppers honored Ada Martin for her commuinty service and work with Crime Stoppers. Martin became involved with Crime Stoppers and has been a ceaseless advocate to get attention for unsolved homicides, including but not limited to her son’s death, according to Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper.
