Candidates, voters ready for primaries – Tuesday June 12

By Stan Welch – In the upcoming Republican primaries on June 12, the winners will face no Democratic opposition in November in the majority of the cases. The only Democrats running against Republicans are Brian Ryan B. Doyle and Cason Gaither, who will run in their primary to see who takes on Republican incumbent U.S.Congressman Jeff Duncan.

GWBA makes donation to ROTC

 

The Greater Williamston Business Association donated $2130 to the Palmetto High Air Force Junior ROTC to help Cadet members participate in the Southeast Region AFJROTC Cadet Officer Leadership School at Mercer University in June. Williamston Police Report

Williamston Police officers investigated the following incidents: May 11 – Brenda Gail Howard, 51, 113 Mattison Dr., Williamston was arrested for public disorderly conduct after a blue Toyota was observed at a traffic safety checkpoint at the intersection of Cherokee Rd., and Ida Tucker. Capt. E. S. Russell, Lt. T. A. Striss investigated.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Report

Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated the following incidents: EASLEY – May 13- J.D. Sparkman responded to 134 Pine Rd. where Jason Fulbright reported that his girl friend, Tina Boswell, WF, 5’4″, 200 pounds, had become angry at him and thrown some of his household items into the yard, damaging them. Sparkman found Boswell in the back yard in her truck with the music playing very loud and with a strong smell of alcohol about her. In his attempts to question her, she continued yelling and cursing loudly. When he attempted to place her in custody, she resisted, striking and shoving him in the process. He used his taser to gain control and she was arrested on charges of malicious damage to property, assault and battery and resisting arrest.

Palmetto to host Dillion in Game 2 of AA Softball State Championship

Palmetto’s Lady Mustangs are just one win away from a State 2-A Softball Championship. That victory could come Wednesday evening, as they host Dillon in the second game in their best-of-three title series. The game will be played at 6 p.m. on the Mustang’s home field. Should the Lady Wildcats even the series at a game apiece, the third and deciding game would be played at a neutral site on Friday.

The Lady Mustangs got a strong defensive effort and a timely offensive charge on Monday, as they went down to Dillon and pulled out a 1-0 decision in eight innings.They turned three double plays, including two at the plate, and got another solid mound performance from Tabitha Allen.

Ryan Rector hit a home run in the eighth inning of the first game of the AA State Championship series to give Palmetto a win over Dillion Monday. The Mustangs (31-6) will return to Williamston to host the Wildcats (27-4) in the second game in the best-of- three series on Wednesday.

Occupants escape serious injury

Mustang Softball advances to State AA Championship series

The Lady Mustang softball team won two games in a row on the road at Gilbert Friday to win the Upper State AA Championship. With an 11-2 win in Game one and an 8-2 win in Game 2 in the Upper State finals, the Mustangs advance to the state championship series being played this week. They will will travel to Dillon Monday for game 1 of the 2A state championship. Game 2 will be played at Palmetto on Wednesday.
