Some Greenville County Schools offer free meals – During summer

Ten locations in Greenville County are providing free lunches and breakfasts Monday through Friday until August 16 for any child 18 years of age or younger. Meals are provided without regard to race, color, sex, age, disability, religion or national origin. Some sites require enrollment in their program to receive a free lunch or breakfast. Parents should contact a participating site for details and hours of service. Times may vary by location.

Graduation Services

Woodmont High Graduation services will be held Wednesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at Furman’s Timmons Arena. Valedictorian is Andrew John Emerson. Salutatorian is Lucille Anne Southwell. There area 311 graduates in the Class of 2013.

Wren High Graduation will be June 6 at 2 p.m. at LittleJohn Coliseum in Clemson.

Graduation services for Palmetto High seniors will be held at 10 a.m. June 6 at LittleJohn Coliseum in Clemson.

Greenville County Schools recognized for performance

In Greenville County Schools, eight high schools, 15 middle schools, 37 elementary schools, and three career centers have earned state recognition for their academic performance and/or closing achievement gaps. The Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards program recognizes schools that attain high levels of absolute performance and growth, and schools that close the gap between subgroups of students.

Greenville County Schools have administration changes

Greenville County Schools Superintendent W. Burke Royster recently announced several leadership changes in the district administration. Leroy Hamilton, former Assistant Superintendent for Middle School Leadership, has assumed duties as Interim Deputy Superintendent. In addition, he will be responsible for duties as the Director of Administrative Services with the pending retirement of Joe Broadus, who also serves as Director of Alternative Education.

Greenville County Schools release 2013-14 calendar

The 2013-14 calendar for Greenville County Schools has been released, and includes the first day for students on Wednesday, August 21, and the last day on Thursday, June 5, 2014.

State law requires that school districts begin school no earlier than the third Monday in August, and the calendar must include 180 days for students and 190 days for teachers.

Jenniffer Grinstead receives National Board Certification

Jenniffer Grinstead, Fifth Grade teacher at Sue Cleveland Elementary, is among 21 Greenville County Schools teachers to receive National Board Certified (NBC), one of the teaching profession’s most respected achievements. With 646 teachers who have achieved National Board Certification, Greenville County Schools ranks 14th in the nation out of more than 14,000 school districts (based on most recent data) for total number of NBC teachers. South Carolina ranks third in the nation with 8,436 NBC teachers, trailing only North Carolina and Florida.

Registration for First Grade and Kindergarten next week

Registration for kindergarten and first grade in Greenville County Schools will be held Tuesday – Friday, January 22-25. Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2013 must enroll in public or private kindergarten, unless the parent or legal guardian signs a waiver. Any child who will be six years old on or before September 1, 2013 must enroll in first grade. Visit your Greenville County public school January 22-25 to register.

Financial aid workshop at Woodmont

Greenville County Schools will join 80 other school districts throughout the state to celebrate School Board Recognition Month in January. Greenville County’s 12 school board members, along with more than 630 elected and appointed school board members throughout South Carolina, are being recognized by schools and communities for their service and dedication to public education.
