Shaw named AD, Head Football Coach at Palmetto

Coach Doug Shaw has been named Athletic Director and head football coach for Palmetto High School. He is slated to begin work July 1, 2013. He is currently Assistant Athletic Director, Head football coach and physical education teacher at Mauldin High School in Greenville County. He has been at Mauldin High for seven years where he was named the Big 16 Upstate Coach of the Year in 2009.

Shaw has a proven record of improving team performance. His ability to develop a working rapport with the players and coaches will prove beneficial. He is a firm believer that discipline and fundamentals are essential to a successful program and by implementing that philosophy the athletic program can progressively improve each year.

Shaw will be responsible for providing direction and leadership at Palmetto High for all athletic teams as they participate in the Western 3A Region. He has previously served at Myrtle Beach High School, North Myrtle Beach High and Carolina High.

Coach Shaw, stated, “I am very excited to be coming to Palmetto High. My previous coaching jobs have been very rewarding. I have tried to instill in the young men what it takes to be successful, not only on the field of play, but in the real world as well. This position holds the responsibility of developing young men as well as football players. I learned from the best, my father, athletic director and head football coach for 25 years, and I saw the time and commitment that it takes to fill this position. I look forward to the opportunity of working with the athletic program at Palmetto High.”

Cadets with the Palmetto High AFJROTC unit picked up trash along several main roadways in the Williamston and Pelzer area Friday. Sgt. Livingston’s group met at West Pelzer Elementary and started on Hardwood Road. Col. Mike Creamer’s group met on Courtney Street in the area across from Fred’s and picked up trash along Courtney.

“100 Days of School” Celebration

100th day hat pic Dales school salute

The “100th Day of School” for Anderson School District 1 was Friday, February 1st at Cedar Grove Elementary. Brown and Creamer’s K-5 class celebrated by making hats with exactly 100 dots on each. Students also brought in a collection of 100 like items, counted to 100 in various ways, completed a 100 number chart and shared 100 pieces of snack.
