Mustang Softball advances to State AA Championship series

The Lady Mustang softball team won two games in a row on the road at Gilbert Friday to win the Upper State AA Championship. With an 11-2 win in Game one and an 8-2 win in Game 2 in the Upper State finals, the Mustangs advance to the state championship series being played this week. They will will travel to Dillon Monday for game 1 of the 2A state championship. Game 2 will be played at Palmetto on Wednesday.

Callaham named principal for Palmetto High School

Anderson School District One and the School Board of Trustees have named Ray Callaham to be the new principal of Palmetto High School. He has been serving as assistant principal at Wren High for the past five years.

Palmetto Soccer Region Champions

Relay for Life Event at Wren High School

Walkers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer when the Second Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of North Anderson gets underway with teams of residents gathering at Wren High School on May 4 at 7 pm. Relay For Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out at an athletic track, park or other gathering area, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening.

(Editor’s Note – Dr. Gary was asked by The Journal to write about his time in School District One. He has included information about many of the improvements and accomplishments of Palmetto High and School District One during his time there.)

It is with mixed emotions that I write this letter to you because I have spent eighteen great years in Anderson School District One. As many of you know, I have been elected as superintendent at Anderson School District Three for the 2012-13 school year. I want to thank each of you for the relationship we have developed over the years and together we have accomplished many great things at Palmetto High.

Car wash to benefit PHS JROTC

The Williamston Police Department and the Palmetto High Junior ROTC will hold a car-wash to raise money for the PHSJROTC unit to help with expenses of attending leadership school. The carwash will be held May 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Spearman holds Spring Fling

Spearman Elementary held their annual Spring Fling on Friday, April 20. The event included lots of fun and food and activites that were enjoyed by all ages. Pictured – Lexi Sullivan enjoyed Mrs. Bartz face painting her nose.

Gary named Anderson School District 3 Superintendent

Anderson School District 3 has named Palmetto High Principal Mason Gary as their next superintendent.

Gary was selected to fill the position after a month long process by the Iva-based district to find a replacement for superintendent Gail Southard, who recently announced she is resigning the position she has held since 2009.
