Area graduates will walk the stage and receive diplomas this week . . .
Woodmont High Graduation services will be held Wednesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at Furman’s Timmons Arena. Valedictorian is Andrew John Emerson. Salutatorian is Lucille Anne Southwell. There area 311 graduates in the Class of 2013.
Wren High Graduation will be June 6 at 2 p.m. at LittleJohn Coliseum in Clemson.
Graduation services for Palmetto High seniors will be held at 10 a.m. June 6 at LittleJohn Coliseum in Clemson.

The Anderson County Council officially recognized the Powdersville High School Marching Band at Tuesday night’s meeting. The band, in its first year of existence, won the State 1A South Carolina Band Championship in October. District Six Councilman Ken Waters presented the resolution, adding that to achieve such a goal in the school’s first year makes it obvious that the new school plans to make its mark.

Superintendent Dr. Wayne Fowler reported that the opening of school was “one of the smoothest openings we have had.” He said on the first day of school instruction had already begun by 8:30 to 9 a.m. and that it was due to the prep work done by teachers, staff and office personnel prior to the opening day.
Powdersville Middle School was recently named the Power of ICU Spotlight School of the Month.
Receiving the Spotlight School Award means that the highlights from the way Powdersville Middle School does things is constantly being shared with over 700 other schools in the early stages of implementing the ICU list. ICU stands for Intensive Care Unit and it implies that a student’s academic situation is sick and needs the attention of the school staff.
Palmetto, Wren and Woodmont seniors are preparing for graduation ceremonies to be held over the next few days. Baccalaureate Services for Palmetto High School graduates will be held Sunday, June 3 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Rev. Eric Boggs, pastor at Beech Springs Tabernacle, will be the featured speaker.
WrenStock 2012 will be held this weekend beginning Saturday June 2 at 4 p.m. and ending the next morning at 10 a.m. The annual event, which is a multi decade class reunion for Wren High alumni, will be held at Anderson Motor Speedway, located off Hwy. 81 on Irby Road.
Walkers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer when the Second Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of North Anderson gets underway with teams of residents gathering at Wren High School on May 4 at 7 pm. Relay For Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out at an athletic track, park or other gathering area, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening.
Concrete Primary School will present their Carnival on Friday, April 27 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Powdersville community event will be held from 5 to 8:30 at 535 Powdersville Main.
