Is it totally uncool to admit that the Budweiser Shootout is one of my top five favorite races of the year?

Although the Shootout does end the seemingly interminable drought known as the NASCAR off-season – with Budweiser instead of water, no less — it isn’t a points-paying event and doesn’t even feature a full 43-driver field. Still, I love it, and the format is the reason why.

Mustang C team ends season with perfect record

MS Boys Basketball Conference Championship Game-3

The Palmetto Middle School boys basketball team put the finishing touches on a perfect season by winning last weekend’s Skyline Middle School Conference Tournament. First-year coaches Will Clarke and Terrance Wilson saw their C-Team Mustangs post a 12-0 record to win the S.M.S.C. regular season title, then take both of their postseason games to bring home the tournament trophy and a perfect overall record of 14-0.

Rematch: Wren vs Easley

As he stood on the field and talked with fans and media after last Friday night’s 35-21 loss to Easley in his team’s regular season finale, Coach Jeff Tate was asked who and where his Wren Golden Hurricanes would be playing in this week’s opening-round of the State 4-A Division II Playoffs .

“I don’t care (who or) where we’re playing, it doesn’t matter,” he answered over and over . . .

Eric Moody inducted into Erskine Ahtletic Hall of Fame

Due West – The Erskine Athletic Department inducted five new members into the Flying Fleet Hall of Fame recently during Homecoming festivities at Erskine College.

Among the five new members is Eric Moody, a Palmetto High School baseball standout who went on the play at Erskine and then the major leagues with the Texas Rangers. Moody is The Flying Fleet’s first Major League baseball player since 1970.
