Hurricanes ready for Mud FLUD run

The second annual Wren Hurricane Mud FLUD Run will be held on Saturday, June 1 beginning at 8 a.m. Participants will crawl through muddy ravines, ford a babbling stream, jump and climb over a multitude of obstacles, while going through through a ‘flud of mud.” Contestants will compete on the 3.1-mile course until the last team completes (or is carried off) the muddy obstacle-filled FLUD Run through Wigington’s Farm behind Wren High School. The event is being organized to raise funds for the Wren High School Athletic Program.

Wren at Eastside Friday in Baseball

The Wren Hurricanes defeated Dreher in baseball playoffs on Wednesday, May 1 by the score of 5-4.  They will play at Eastside on Friday, May 3.

Lady Hurricanes advance in Upper-State

Forget about college basketball’s ‘Final Four’.

One of our very own local teams is in the high school ‘Final Four’.

Wren’s Lady Hurricanes advanced to this Saturday evening’s Upper-State 3-A Finals with Monday night’s 56-40 third-round rout of defending champion Dreher.

Suggs to speak at AATC

Tommy Suggs, Color analyst for the South Carolina Gamecocks radio network, will be the guest speaker at the Anderson Area Touchdown Club weekly meeting on Friday, October 5. Suggs is back for his 39th year on the network. He was a former standout Gamecock quarterback and was inducted into the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.

Sam Wyche to speak at AA touchdown club

Former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Sam Wyche will be the guest speaker this Friday, September 28 at the weekly meeting of the Anderson Area Touchdown Club. Wyche is perhaps best known for introducing the “No-huddle offense” as a standard offense and led the Bengals to Super Bowl XXIII. Coach Wyche played professionally for 10 years.

SPORTS EXTRA WEEK 1

This is Week One of fall sports, namely football, and the new SPORTS EXTRA focuses on all four local high school teams this week with Palmetto vs. Powdersville and Wren vs. Woodmont. In this week’s issue, sports fans will find Pre-Game Previews on both games, a story on area Coaches, and other information.

The Journal SPORTS EXTRA will have the Area’s Best Coverage of High School Sports for all four area schools including the Palmetto Mustangs, Wren Hurricanes, Powdersville Patriots and Woodmont Wildcats.
