A South Greenville fire engine sits near Woodmont High School Wednesday evening as firefighters work to extinguish a rekindle of a woods fire near the school. On Wednesday, February 20 at 12:02 pm the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an area resident regarding a brush fire near the intersection of Garrison Road and Reedy Fork Road in Pelzer. Two young white females were seen by the caller in the immediate area of the fire.
Gov. Nikki Haley received the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association’s (MEMA) inaugural State Leadership Award Tuesday at the Drive Automotive facility in Piedmont. A MEMA affiliate member nominated the Governor for the award, given for outstanding assistance to the motor vehicle supplier industry by an elected state official, according to the association.
Bike racing returned to South Greenville area over the weekend. The second of five races of the Hincapie Spring Training Series was held at the Fork Shoals Elementary School and surrounding roads on Saturday, Feb. 16. The racing finished just as snow began falling across the area on Saturday and racing continued on Sunday at the Donaldson Center.
The South Greenville Fire District will host a Firefighters Chili Cook-off this Saturday, Feb. 23 at the SGFD headquarters at 8305 Augusta Road, Pelzer. Cooking starts at 8 a.m. and the public can sample the chili being cooked for the competition with serving beginning at 11 a.m. Judging will end at 3 p.m. The public is invited.

Two people were injured Friday (Feb. 1) night in a two vehicle accident on US 25 in Moonville. The two vehicles collided near the intersection of I-185. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Department is looking for information related to the break-in of the Dollar General store located at 2310 W. Georgia Road in Simpsonville.
According to reports, on January 17, 11:10 pm an unknown white male broke into the Dollar General on W. Georgia Road while the store was closed. After entering the store the suspect went throughout the store taking various items. The items taken from the store were valued at $49.
Two drivers were injured in a head-on accident early Monday morning on West Georgia Road. The head -on collision left one driver entrapped and they had to be cut from the wreckage by South Greenville firefighters. The wreck closed West Georgia Road for about an hour. (Photo by David Rogers)
