Boys Home Soiree May 3

The Boys Home of the South will hold its 12th Annual Spring Soiree on Thursday, May 3 at the Embassy Suites on Verdae Boulevard in Greenville. The event hopes to raise $100,000 for the Boys Home, a non-profit group home in southern Greenville County that currently serves fifty-two boys, ages 6 to 21. Over 400 people are expected to attend this fun event that always sells out.

Piedmont man arrested for meth lab

Two Greenville County Sheriff’s Deputies were patrolling on foot at the Economy Inn located at 3905 Augusta Road when they heard a “hissing” noise coming from behind a retaining wall located on the property. Upon investigation, the deputies found Alan Scott Sprouse, 43, of Piedmont, holding a liter bottle containing a bubbling liquid consistent with that of a methamphetamine laboratory.

To meet Donnie Seigler with his smile and lively personality you would never know that he is fighting the battle of his life. He has lived with Acid Reflux Disease for the past 8 years and the doctors have been treating it by medication. Donnie also went every six months for an Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) a test to examine the lining of the esophagus. All of Donnie’s tests had been negative until this past December when he found out that he had Esophageal Cancer and it was at Stage 4.

School choice legislation gains support

Legislation helping low-income and disabled students attend independent schools recently passed out of the South Carolina’s House of Representatives by a vote of 65 to 49.

“Parents have the most information and best motivation to make decisions for their own children,” explained Representative Eric Bedingfield (R-Greenville), one of the bill’s chief sponsors. The plan supports low-income students and children with special educational needs through privately funded scholarships. Scholarship donors would be eligible for income tax credits. Modest tax deductions for families who homeschool their children or pay out of pocket for independent schools are also part of the plan.

Greenville County schools earn gold, silver

Eleven high schools, 14 middle schools, and 46 elementary schools in Greenville County Schools District have earned state recognition for academic performance and/or closing achievement gaps.
Schools in southern Greenville County receiving either gold or silver awards for general performance included: Ralph Chandler Middle,   Gold; Woodmont Middle, Silver; Ellen Woodside Elementary, Silver; Fork Shoals Elementary, Silver and Sue Cleveland Elementary, Silver.

Three injured – Moonville

Three people were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital following an accident Saturday at the intersection of Augusta Road and J. Walter Moon Boulevard. Two cars collided in the intersection. Craig to attend 2013 Inaugural events

De Ara Craig, daughter of Claressa Craig, of Piedmont, granddaughter of James and Erica Goldsmith of Piedmont and Linda Craig of Seneca has been selected to take part in the celebration of a truly historic event   the Inauguration of the President and Vice President of the United States and attending the Middle School Presidential Inaugural Conference taking place from January 19 – 23, 2013 in Washington, DC.

Gene Machine to visit Woodmont High School

The Greenwood Genetic Center’s (GGC) Gene Machine will be at Woodmont High School on Tuesday, Mar. 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Students in Honors Biology classes will have the opportunity to perform hands-on experiments on-board the mobile lab to learn about current technologies and lab skills in the field of genetics as well as career opportunities in biotechnology.

Driver injured – South Greenville

South Greenville firefighters work at the scene of a single vehicle accident Thursday night that left one person injured. The driver of a pickup truck was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital by Greenville County EMS
