Pete’s Family Restaurant moving to new location on Hwy. 25

Pete’s Family Restaurant of West Pelzer will be relocating to a new building at 9196 Augusta Rd. (Hwy. 25) Pelzer.

In addition to their menu classics, the new location will offer new features including separate dining areas for smoking and nonsmoking customers, free WiFi, larger restrooms and handicap accessibility.

Kart racing in Possum Kingdom

Go Kart racers from all over the country participated in one of the largest races in the sport over the weekend. The Possum Kingdom Super Speedway hosted the DynoCams Tri-State Pro Series Kart Race drew approximately 1000 entries who competed for $40,000 in prize money.

New high school to relieve overcrowding

Meeting to discuss names – The Board of Trustees of Greenville County Schools is accepting suggestions for the name of the new high school to open in southern Greenville County in August 2017. The school, which will be located on Quillen Avenue in Fountain inn, will relieve overcrowding at Hillcrest, Mauldin, and Woodmont High Schools.

Performs at music conference

Woodmont High IB freshman Cedric Shell recently performed at the Piano Divisions Honors Recital as part of the SC Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference in Charleston.

Greenville County Schools Course Registration for 2012-13 begins Feb. 13

Registration for fall courses for Greenville County Schools students in grades 5-11 will be held February 13 – March 15, 2012. Parents and students should check with their school regarding specific grade-level registration dates.

Possum Kingdom Karting race event one of largest in the country

The Possum Kingdom Super Speedway will host the DynoCams Tri-State Pro Series Kart Race this weekend, Feb. 10 and 11. The Go Kart race is the largest in the country and is expected to draw more than 1000 entries who will compete for $40,000 in prize money. One winner will walk away with $10,000 organizers said.Kart racing on the quarter mile dirt oval will reach speeds as high as 90 mph and will provide plenty of thrills. The main events will start at approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Moped struck by SUV

People gather at the scene of a moped accident Sunday evening at the intersection of West Georgia and Reedy Fork Roads where a moped was struck by an SUV in the intersection near Woodmont High School. The seventeen year old moped driver was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital by Greenville Hospital System Med Trans helicopter. South Greenville firefighters and Greenville EMS provided patient care until the helicopter arrived. It was the second accident in South Greenville County involving mopeds in two days. Moped driver injured

Greenville County Schools 2012-13 School Calendar

The 2012-13 calendar for Greenville County Schools was recently approved. The 2012-13 school year begins for students on Wednesday, August 22, and ends on Thursday, June 6, 2013. State law requires that school districts begin school no earlier than the third Monday in August, and the calendar must include three makeup days, 180 days for students, and 190 days for teachers.
