Powdersville Subway robbed

Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating an early morning robbery that occurred at a Powdersville restaurant. Deputies responded to the Subway at 3443 Highway 153, Piedmont, and learned that a lone male robbed the manager at gunpoint and fled the scene on foot.

Water option could bring savings; Main St. program in question – For West Pelzer

An otherwise mundane discussion of the proposed budget for West Pelzer took several interesting turns Monday night, after the question of whether or not the town would join with Williamston in participating in the Main Street program arose.

The program is designed to rejuvenate the downtown business areas of small towns and as a tool for development and attracting businesses and jobs. Various municipal officials from Williamston, West Pelzer and Pelzer, have been promoting the program as a possible joint effort involving all three towns.

West Pelzer approves first reading on budget

The West Pelzer Town Council eventually gave first reading approval to a proposed balanced budget which maintains the current millage while providing a three per cent across the board wage increase for the Town’s employees.

The vote came after more than an hour of discussion, most of which centered around a controversial offer from the town of Williamston to sell West Pelzer drinking water.

Two local players named “All-American” – Powdersville football

Two rising 9th graders who played football at Powdersville Middle School have been selected as high school “All-Americans” and are considered among the top 100 players in the nation.

“JJ” Gentile and “EJ” Humphrey both attended several football camps and combines during the spring where they have gone against some of the top players in the nation in their class.

Palmetto High Graduates file out of the LittleJohn Coliseum with smiles on their faces after receiving their diplomas Thursday. Area graduates of Palmetto, Wren and Woodmont are now entering a new phase of their lives as they leave high school behind and move on to college, work, creating families and possibly changing the world. A special salute to graduates of all three schools is included in this edition of The Journal. “We wish all our area graduates and their families all the best as they celebrate this milestone,” Journal Managing Editor David Meade said.

Pond owner gets help

The Williamston woman who owns a dam recently declared unsafe by the state says she has a glimmer of hope, thanks to an article that ran last week in The Journal about her problem.

Ramona Wesley, of 20 Moorings Drive, received an order from DHEC’s department of Dams and Reservoir Safety on May 2. That letter informed her that the Department has conducted a survey and determined the dam that creates the ponds to be unsafe.
