County communications center to locate in former Duke Energy building

A proposed partnership between the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and Anderson University led to some unusual circumstances at Monday night’s County Council meeting. The proposal, which would establish the county’s emergency operations center on the second floor of a building owned by the University, and also establish that center as the centerpiece for the proposed Excellence in Law Enforcement training facility, was both heavily opposed and adamantly defended.

Coyotes, cougars and cops top discussion for County

Coyotes, cougars and cops were the subjects of discussion at Tuesday’s meeting of Anderson County Council. At the request of District Seven Councilwoman Cindy Wilson, information concerning the control and disposal of coyotes was presented by County Staffer Steve Newton, who said that two weeks ago, all he knew about coyotes was that they aren’t very good at catching roadrunners.

Powdersville Town Hall meeting Jan. 30

Anderson County Council District Six representative Ken Waters will hold another in a series of town hall meetings at the end of this month.

The subject matter for the January 30th meeting will be determined by the citizens who show up, said Councilman Waters.

Tom Allen to chair County Council

The 2012 Anderson County Council elected its chairman and vice chairman Tuesday night. District Four representative Tom Allen was elected unanimously to the chair, while former two term chairman Tommy Dunn was elected as vice chairman.

IPads, technology wave of the future

The recent decision by the Anderson County Council to purchase Ipads for those of its members who want them has been questioned by some, but the wireless electronic devices are clearly the wave of the future.

The approximate $8000 cost for the devices, which will allow those who prefer their information in a digital form to receive it that way, will be covered by a grant from Duke Energy, a circumstance that gives a very strong endorsement of the devices’ capabilities.

Economic Development, IPADs top County Council discussion

The Anderson County Council moved quickly through a moderately busy agenda Tuesday night, before adjourning until the new year.

Several items were brought before the full Council by the finance committee. Foremost among those items was the question of whether or not the County should consider building an industrial facility on speculation, in an effort to attract more businesses to the area.
