Jenniffer Grinstead receives National Board Certification

Jenniffer Grinstead, Fifth Grade teacher at Sue Cleveland Elementary, is among 21 Greenville County Schools teachers to receive National Board Certified (NBC), one of the teaching profession’s most respected achievements. With 646 teachers who have achieved National Board Certification, Greenville County Schools ranks 14th in the nation out of more than 14,000 school districts (based on most recent data) for total number of NBC teachers. South Carolina ranks third in the nation with 8,436 NBC teachers, trailing only North Carolina and Florida.

Greenville County Schools accepting school choice requests

Greenville County Schools, the State leader in school choice with more than 10,000 of its 70,000 students (15%) attending school by choice, is accepting requests for Change in School Assignment Choice from Monday, December 3, 2012 through Friday, January 4, 2013. Requests are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis while space is available at the requested school.

Greenville County students ready for HSAP

The High School Assessment Program (HSAP) will be administered October 23-25, 2012 to identified students who are beyond the second year of high school after their initial enrollment in the ninth grade and have not taken or have not passed the HSAP exam(s).

Greenville County Schools increase EOC pass rates

Greenville County Schools posted an increase in passage rates on the End-of-Course exams for students in Biology 1 (from 75.5% in 2011 to 81.4% in 2012) and U.S. History (from 59.8% in 2011 to 65.7% in 2012), while passage rates for students enrolled in English 1 and Algebra 1 dipped slightly from 2011 to 2012. EOCEP examinations count 20% of a student’s final grades in the course.

Greenville County Schools improve on SAT scores

Greenville County Schools’ average score on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) increased in 2012 by two points to 1455, according to a report from The College Board, the organization that administers the test. Greenville County’s combined average score includes composite scores on three sections – critical reading (491), mathematics (494), and writing (470).

For the fourth year in a row, Greenville County Schools’ seniors outperformed the state and national averages on the American College Test (ACT), one of two major college entrance tests.

Greenville County Schools above State on PASS Tests

The percentage of Greenville County Schools students scoring Met or Exemplary on the Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (PASS) tests increased from 2011 to 2012 in 19 of 26 tests, including all grade levels in science. The results were released recently by the State Department of Education.
