Duncan, Scott luncheon May 2

The Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Congressional luncheon featuring U.S. House Representative Jeff Duncan and U.S. Senator Tim Scott. The event will be held on Thursday, May 2 from 12:15 – 1:30 pm at the Anderson Campus of Tri-county Technical College located at 511 Michelin Boulevard in Anderson.

Both Representative Duncan, a South Carolina Republican for the 3rd District, and Congressman Scott, a South Carolina Republican, will give their respective updates from Washington, DC.

Anderson Area Chamber member registration is $30, and non-member registration is $35. The deadline for registration is Tuesday, April 30.

Congressman Jeff Duncan Reacts to the State of the Union Address

Washington, DC—South Carolina Congressman Jeff Duncan issued the following statement in response to the President’s State of the Union Address: “Tonight we heard the President say he wants to focus on jobs. Unfortunately, the President’s record doesn’t match his rhetoric. When the President says he wants to focus on jobs, I’m afraid he really means that he’s going to focus on undermining gun rights, raising taxes, climate change, more government regulations, and higher levels of government spending.”

Duncan responds to President’s remarks on debt ceiling

Congressman Jeff Duncan issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s remarks on the debt ceiling:

“President Obama’s remarks on the debt ceiling show how out of touch he is in regards to America’s spending problem. The President may be the only person in Washington who believes that failing to increase the nation’s credit card limit is the same as failing to pay back the credit card company.”

Congressman Jeff Duncan, of the Third District, speaking in an exclusive interview with The Journal, predicted not just the defeat of President Obama in November, but defeat by such a margin that Republican candidate Mitt Romney will have a clear mandate to change the country’s direction.

US Supreme Court says ObamaCare is constitutional as a tax

The United States Supreme Court ruled Thursday, in a 5 to 4 decision, to uphold the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. The ruling upholds the provision known as the “individual mandate” that forces people to buy health insurance or face stiff penalties is constitutional as a tax.

According to the White House, the Supreme Court’s decision ensures hard-working, middle class families will get the security they deserve and protects every American from the worst insurance company abuses. While this may be the upside and may be true, there are others who say there is a downside including that it will interfere with the doctor/patient relationship, cause health insurance premiums to skyrocket, increase the national debt and ration care for seniors.

Conservative Club to host Rep. Jeff Duncan1st Monday

1st Monday Club of Anderson will meet on Monday, April 2nd at the Anderson YMCA on Community Road from noon until 1 p.m.

Special guest speaker will be U.S. Representative Jeff Duncan. Elected in 2010 to the 112th Congress, Duncan currently sits on three House committees including the Natural Resources Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Foreign Affairs Committee. Additionally, Congressman Duncan was appointed by Speaker John Boehner to the Executive Committee for the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission.

Town hall to focus on legal actions against SC – Duncan, Wilson

Third District Congressman Jeff Duncan and South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson will hold a joint town hall meeting in the Upstate on Tuesday, February 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Easley Campus of Tri-County Technical College. The town hall will focus on the federal government’s legal actions against South Carolina.

United States Congressman Jeff Duncan, in a conference call Monday with several Upstate media outlets, confirmed that he will run for re-election, but declared that his current focus is on doing the job, more than keeping it. Rep. Duncan, in his first term, continues to stress fiscal restraint and responsibility as major aspects of that job. Duncan, along with fellow S.C. Congressman Rick Mulvaney and several others, returned a significant portion of his office budget to the government recently, specifying that it be spent on paying down the government’s debt.
