Plans for Powdersville property draw attention

The lack of official confirmation about the plans for a large tract of land in Powdersville did nothing to reduce the public’s interest at last Thursday’s town hall meeting, hosted by District Six Councilman Ken Waters.

At a meeting of the type usually dominated by recreation and traffic, neither of those topics could even make it onto the radar; as rumored plans for a low income housing development at the site, located between the Ingle’s supermarket and Concrete School, dominated the discussion.

Anderson County Councilman Ken Waters will hold a Town Hall Meeting for District 6 on March 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Powdersville Library. The library is located at 4 Civic Court in Powdersville. “This is an opportunity for District 6 residents to share their concerns and suggestions,” said Councilman Waters. “I urge everyone to come out and take an active part in making Anderson County the best she can be.”

Opperman Webbing celebrates expansion

Oppermann Webbing, Inc. in celebrated the completion of the company’s new 38,000 square foot facility expansion on Wednesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The business is located at 129 Hollow Drive in Piedmont.

Since the October 2012 announcement of $2.1 million investment and 20 new jobs, Oppermann Webbing, Inc. has been in the process of adding manufacturing and warehouse equipment to its existing operation.Cutting the ribbon to celebrate a completion of a recent expansion are (l-r) Anderson County Economic Development Head Burris Nelson, Andeson County Councilam Ken Waters, owner Andreas Oppermann, general manager Roland Hossil and Jimmy Wilson.

Hurricane Park restroom facility gets funding

Due to a financial commitment by District Six County Councilman Ken Waters, a long awaited restroom facility will be completed at Hurricane Park, adjacent to Wren High School. The project, which was started some time ago but which has lain dormant due to funding issues, will be completed in time for the reawakening spring sports programs, according to county officials.

Powdersville citizens speak out at meeting

By Stan Welch – A handful of citizens attended a public forum held by County Councilman Ken Waters at the Powdersville Library on Thursday, Sept. 27. The meeting is a regular event started by Councilman Waters as a way of keeping in touch with his constituents.

The news was mostly economic in nature and good in tone. Waters reported that four economic development projects have been finalized in District Six in the last two years, producing a total of 200 jobs and fifteen million dollars in capital investments.

County hospitality tax discussed in Powdersville

By Stan Welch – The possibility of a countywide two cents hospitality tax dominated the discussion at a public meeting held by District Six Councilman Ken Waters in Powdersville Tuesday night. For his part, Waters announced that he favored putting the issue up to the voters in a non-binding referendum, and declared he would abide by his constituents’ wishes. “We can break the vote out by District, and I will not vote for this tax unless the people of District Six tell me to.”

Powdersville meeting May 29

Anderson Dist. 6 County Councilman Ken Waters will hold a townhall meeting on Tues., May 29 at 6:30 in the Dan Cooper Library in Powdersville. The main purpose of this meeting is to talk about the change in traffic pattern at the Powdersville Main and Old Mill Rd. intersection. Other topics will be discussed. The public is invited. Duke Sandwich operation coming to Powdersville

The Anderson County Council voted Tuesday night to give final approval to an incentive package for Duke Sandwich Productions, which plans to invest $5 million in the Powdersville area. The company, which makes a wide variety of sandwich spreads, dips, dressings, and dessert items, will occupy and refurbish the former Rock ten facility at 211 Pine Road. Forty five jobs are expected to be created over the next five years.

Tuesday forum on Dolly Cooper Park access trail

Anderson County Council District 6 representative Ken Waters and the Anderson County Parks and Recreation Department will hold an information forum to discuss a Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant application for the proposed Dolly Cooper Shoreline Access Trail. The meeting will be held at the Powdersvill Library Tuesday, March 27 at 6 pm
