Barbecue Festival and Cookoff this weekend

Williamston’s first big event of the season, the Pig in the Park Barbecue Cookoff and Festival will be held in Williamston’s Mineral Spring Park this weekend.

Sponsored by the Williamton Masonic Lodge, the two day event will feature 24 cooking teams from all over SC and one from NC who will be set up and cooking their barbecue specialties in the park.

Farmers Market planned during monthly events – In Mineral Spring Park

The Palmetto Area Economic Development Committee recently announced that a new Palmetto Farmers Markets will debut this spring. The Palmetto Market is a local farmers and craft market that will be located in Williamston’s Mineral Spring Park during monthly scheduled events.

Mineral Spring Park to host two new events

The Town of Williamston gave their approval Monday to organizers of two events to use Mineral Spring Park as the location for their events.

The Greater Williamston Business Association (GWBA) is planning a “Party in the Park” event for Friday, May 31. The next day, Saturday, June 1, the park will be the center of activities associated with a new event called “ParkFest.” Though both events are in the early planning stages, organizers had plenty to say about them.

The smell of deep fried turkeys cooking filled the air in downtown Williamston Wednesday morning as volunteers from area churches joined Christian Men United in Prayer in Mineral Spring Park to cook 225 turkey breasts. As part of a Thanksgiving outreach, volunteers cooked turkeys and packed boxes with canned good which provided a Thanksgiving meal for approximately 200 area families.

 

Christmas Park opens Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Williamston Christmas Park opening night and lighting ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 24 at the Amphitheater Stage. There will be a special program and the arrival of Santa on the town’s 1936 fire engine. A new featured display will be a Children’s Christmas Village.

Christmas Park and Deck the Halls

Churches, businesses and organizations in the area are invited to place a lighted display in Williamston’s Christmas Park this holiday season. There is no cost but an application must be filled out to reserve a space, coordinator Dianne Lollis said.. Displays should be made of sturdy materials with enough spotlights to make it visible at night.

Prayer group to cook turkeys for area families

Need volunteers

Christian Men United in Prayer, a prayer group of 40 to 50 men that meets weekly at a local restaurant, will be in Mineral Spring Park on Wednesday, Nov. 21 cooking enough turkeys to provide a Thanksgiving meal for more than 160 families. The group plans to deep fry approximately 160 turkey breasts. Any area churches or persons interested in participating in the community wide Thanksgiving meal preparation are invited to join Christian Men United in Prayer next Wednesday, Nov. 21 in Mineral Spring Park.

Merry Christmas pageant accepting applications

The Williamston Merry Christmas Pageant for children ages 1 day to 13 years will be held at 2 p.m. Sat. Nov. 18 at the Williamston Municipal Center. All crowned winners will be invited to appear at the Williamston Christmas Park opening on Saturday, Nov. 24 and the Williamston Christmas parade on Sat., Dec. 8.

Deadline for entry is Thursday, Nov. 15. Entry forms are available at the Williamston Municipal Center, The Journal , K&M Dance House and Debra’s Designs. Last minute entry forms should be turned in to K&M Dance House and will be accepting until 9 p.m. on Nov. 15.

BOO in the Park Saturday

Williamston’s annual Boo in the Park event will be held on Saturday, October 27 from 5-9 p.m. in Mineral Spring Park. The event will include entertainment, costume contest, fire truck rides, free candy for kids and other special activities. Signup for the costume contest for ages newborn to 12 years will be at 6:30 p.m. all entries will receive a gift certificate and prizes.
