Former mayor alleges improprieties in police department grant

Mayor Phillip Clardy addressed Williamston Town Council Monday with comments about a police department grant and questioned whether the town followed their purchasing policy. He also challenged Mayor Carthel Crout on information disclosed about the grant. The issue was also brought up during the January Council meeting. Mayor Crout said he did not intend to get into a dialog with Clardy on the issue, but would address it outside the council meeting.

Newly hired Williamston officer denies allegations – Chief says thoroughly vetted

Newly hired Williamston Police Officer Jesse Harris, who was recently fired by the Seneca Police Department (SPD), adamantly denies the allegations of sexual harassment which led to his firing earlier this month.

In fact, he denies that those allegations are even the reason for his firing at all. The process allegedly began sometime last summer, which is when Harris allegedly made an improper remark to a female officer in the SPD dispatch room. Similar charges were also reportedly made against two other officers at the time.

Saturation operation effective

The Williamston Police Department recently conducted a Saturation operation in Williamston which resulted in numerous arrests, tickets or warnings.

Particpating in the operation were three State Highway Patrol officers, four full time Williamston Police officers, two Reserves and six State Constables.
