Spring Water Festival features Mac Arnold

Williamston’s 2012 Spring Water Festival will celebrate its 31st year of providing a fun, family oriented event loaded with activities this weekend in Mineral Spring Park. The festival will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday with crafts, children’s rides, food and live music by The System and the Out of Towners Band.

On Saturday, the fun will continue with the Spring Water Run, crafts and displays, auto show, fire truck rides, children’s entertainment and gospel music. This year the festival will feature a variety of stage entertainment throughout the day including local blues legend Mac Arnold and his band Plate Full ’O Blues.

Mayor candidate Leach out of race

William “Curly” Leach, who recently announced that he planned to run for the office of mayor in Williamston announced this week that he is dropping out of the race. In an emailed statement to The Journal, Leach said, “The last couple of months have been a whirlwind of excitement and change, some good and some sad.”

Suspects in beating arrested in Piedmont, Williamston

SWAT team called out

Two men accused of attacking a Piedmont man in Belton have been arrested and charged with attempted murder. One of the arrests was made last Monday (July 2) in Williamston and the other in Piedmont Monday, July 9 after a standoff that involved SWAT and lasted several hours.

Pig in the Park May 18-19

The Pig in the Park Barbecue Cookoff will be held May 18 and 19 in Williamston’s Mineral Spring Park. Acitivites will begin on Friday at 12 noon with barbecue and food sales, craft vendors, children’s play area and live entertainment by Barnyard on a Freight Train singing country music.

ACTC funds approved for paving in park

Williamston Police Officers investigated the following:

Mar. 30 – Brandie Marie Toothman, 30, 835 Joe Black Rd. Williamston was arrested for operating an uninsured vehicle, driving under suspension and failure to register a vehicle after officers observed a Nissan car on Mill St. D. M. Stipe investigated.
