Town begins codes violation enforcement

Beginning today, Williamston Mayor Mack Durham and the Williamston Police Department are kicking off “Operation Clean Up.” Williamston Police Chief Tony Taylor said officers will be enforcing violations of the town’s codes and ordinances including tall grass/weeds and junk. Williamston man arrested in drug bust

A joint effort between the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Williamston Police Department and West Pelzer Police Department resulted in the arrest of a Williamston man on drug charges Wednesday morning.

Anthony Daquan Dean, 21, 18 Brown St., Williamston is charged with distribution of crack cocaine, distribution of a controlled substance proximity of a school and outstanding warrants following the drug bust.

Williamston PD looking for reserve officers

The Williamston Police Department is currently taking applications for a reserve officer program.

“A Reserve Police Officer is a citizen volunteer who devotes his or her valuable time and effort towards creating a safer community,” said Williamston Police Captain Kevin Marsee.

Williamston police dispatch no longer taking calls

Starting today (Tuesday, Apr. 23) at 7 p.m., police dispatch services for the Town of Williamston will be transferred to the Anderson County 911 Center. Citizens should call 911 for Police, Fire or EMS services.

According to Williamston Police Chief Tony Taylor, calls to the Williamston Police Department will no longer be answered by a Williamston Police Dispatcher. Instead, calls made to the department will go to the consolidated dispatch center also known as the Anderson County Emergency Services or Anderson County 911 Center.

Town implementing Crime Watch Initiative

Williamston Mayor Mack Durham recently unveiled a Crime Watch Initiative which will be implemented by Chief of Police Tony C. Taylor. The “Crime Watch Initiative” is a program involving the joint efforts of the Williamston Police Department and the community and is designed to enhance neighborhood security, heighten the community’s power of observation and to encourage mutual assistance and concern among neighbors.

911 – Move to Central Dispatch will provide better service

Officials with The Town of Williamston and the Williamston Police Department have requested to have the jail and dispatch operations turned over to the Anderson County 911 system.

According to Williamston Police Chief Tony Taylor and Mayor Mack Durham, the move will save the town money while providing a higher level of service to residents of the town.

Williamston Police Report

Williamston Police Officers investigated a shoplifting incident in which a 44 year old man took candy and an incident in which a man thought to be passed out behind the wheel did not respond well when he was awakend. The following incidents were reported:

Feb. 26 – Stacy Andre Smith, 44, 101 Bigby St., Williamston was arrested for shoplifting at Sav Way 309 E. Main St. after taking candy items valued at $19.08 from the store. Items taken included four king sized Hershey chocolate bars, four king sized Twix bars and four king sized Reeses Cups. T. D. Hoover investigated.

Williamston police investigating death

Williamston police are investigating the death of a Williamston man Monday afternoon. Pictured - Williamston Police Chief Tony Taylor (right) and Captain Jay Grubbs at the scene where a man, in his 30s, was found in a small building located behind a residence on West Main Street. Williamston Police and Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating.

Buzzards attract attention

Buzzards, anywhere from 25 to 100 or more, have been drawing the attention of Williamston residents for about two weeks. The buzzards sit daily on the town’s water tower on Hamilton St. and surrounding trees and at times can be seen forming a vortex over the area in what has been described by witnesses as “hundreds”.

Chase ends with crash in Williamston

Updated 2/27/13 – A police chase from West Pelzer through Williamston Tuesday ended when the suspect lost control of his vehicle at a busy intersection and crashed into a building.

According to West Pelzer Police Chief M. D. Clardy, West Pelzer Sgt. J. W. Sparks received a call of a hit and run accident involving a 2005 Cadillac which was headed into West Pelzer. A witness who was in phone contact with Central Dispatch was following the vehicle. When Sgt. Sparks attempted a traffic stop on Hwy. 20 , the vehicle sped off toward Williamston. Sparks pursued the vehicle into Williamston.
